Why?
the communist government of North Vietnam wanted to seas control over South Vietnam. also during this time the U.S and South Vietnam were allies. And to throw the icing on the cake the U.S didn't particularly like communism.
Who?
south Korea and North Korea were in the midst of it all because they are the two that has a major problem with one another. the French were also involved but for only for a brief moment in the beginning. and of course eventually, the U.S did have participation in this big and pointless war. the war ended in 1975 even though Richard Nixon had ordered all troops to leave in 1973
where
the majority of the whole war took place in South Vietnam where the U.S alongside South Vietnam desperately tried so hard to fend off the North Vietnam invasion.
what?
the U.S had many pointless casualties. having over 58,000 fatal injuries and having, even more, less fatal but still life-changing injuries. there's also the argument that the internal political argues between Vietnam have no real effect on the U.S. this war cost a lot for us just to lose. the amount of money we spent was around 111 billion dollars, this adds up to 738 billion dollars in nowadays standards.
When
This War all took place in the span of 20 years. from 1955 to 1975. the actual fighting, however, didn't start right away.
